Members of the Yorùbá community came together on October 4, 2025, to celebrate Nigerian Independence Day with a vibrant showcase of culture, food, and artistry. The event drew families, friends, and cultural enthusiasts eager to honor their heritage while commemorating the nation’s independence, creating an atmosphere filled with pride, laughter, and a strong sense of community spirit.
The celebration offered attendees a true taste of home, with tables laden with traditional Yorùbá dishes and refreshing drinks that kept the energy high throughout the day. Adding a playful, competitive edge to the festivities, a lively quiz competition tested guests’ knowledge of Yorùbá history, language, and traditions, sparking friendly rivalry and plenty of laughter among participants of all ages.

Cultural expression took center stage as the event featured a rich program of African dance, music, and poetry. Performances by Yorùbá Lédè and Iran Vibes brought rhythm and color to the celebration, while acclaimed saxophonist Yemi Sax delighted the crowd with soulful renditions that fused traditional melodies with contemporary flair. Adéṣínà Ayẹni’s poetry added a reflective, artistic dimension to the day, weaving words that spoke to identity, heritage, and pride in Yorùbá culture.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of Awards of Excellence to three individuals recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community and for the promotion of Yorùbá culture. The awardees were celebrated for their dedication and impact, receiving warm applause and recognition from attendees who saw their achievements as a reflection of the community’s shared values.
